DR. THOMMI LAWSON, CAREER COUNSELOR AND THERAPIST
I draw upon my corporate career history on both sides of the Human Resources desk, as well as my clinical training and experience, to serve you. My short-term, solutions-based approach uniquely addresses the overlap, or blurred lines, between career achievement, interpersonal relationships, and home life.
YOU CAN CONNECT THE DOTS AND FIND JOY (AGAIN)!
I help clients figure out strategies for enjoying work, dealing with difficult colleagues, or making better career choices. Sometimes we uncover emotional issues—stress, anxiety, or depression--that would sabotage success at any new position or company. If this happens, I use effective therapies to increase your chances to thrive and reclaim your joy.
FUN FACTS ABOUT ME
I am a half-marathoner based in Columbia, South Carolina. I love glamping with my husband, a semi-pro bass angler, and giving belly rubs to every dog I see.
CAN WE TALK?
I understand that work travel can exacerbate personal pressures ... BUT it can also afford rare moments of privacy, so I offer HIPPA-compliant counseling via telephone or video chat to individuals in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. If you do not reside in NC, SC or GA, I offer private consultation services by phone or video conferencing. Consultation is different from the deeper in-person work of therapy, so I do not treat issues such as depression in this capacity.
MY APPROACH
My approach is guided by the following tenets:
- Therapy is an opportunity to hear your thoughts out loud. My role as a therapist is to hold an invisible mirror and reflect back any blind spots, highlight incongruencies, and challenge your self-imposed limitations.
- I consider the whole person, not just your career. I understand culture including all the …isms such as racism, sexism, and ageism that may have limited your professional choices.
- Of course, the past will come up. I do not believe we need to spend months in analysis about the past. But we do need to identify any limiting beliefs that drive you or restrict you.
My approach is short-term solution focused. I want you to focus on what brings you JOY.
